The New Orleans band Dirty Bourbon River Show will make a stop at New Haven's Cafe Nine on Monday, April 27, as part of the band's national tour to support the just-released album, "Important Things Humans Should Know."
The group had its first gig at an open mic at NOLA's Tipitina's Homegrown Night in 2009 and it has been onward and upward ever since. Band leader and multi-instrumentalist Noah Adams cites Dr. John, Fats Waller and Huey Smith as major influences.
"We're always tinkering and playing with parts," Adams said. "And we've released a lot of albums, churned them out. It was a good way of figuring out who we were (and) how to incorporate a lot of things into one song."
On its new album, the group collaborated for the first time with an outside producer, Craig Schumacher, who has worked with Neko Case, Calexico and Devotcha.
Adams promises that their show is more than a standard music gig. "It's an event. A circus," he said, with vaudeville-like vignettes and music that unfolds like a story.
